This acrylic painting documents part of my grieving process. It was important for me to deal with my feelings of loss and sadness and transform the energy into something healing.

I knew I wanted his image. I thought about what expression I wanted — his sly trademark smirk, that sassy yet confident upward bend of his lips that seem to say “I see you, you see me, yeah.”

His musical legacy, his philanthropy, his majesty will never be forgotten and especially his spiritual influence on my life.

After about 3 weeks of painting, here is the result. An image of my mentor’s encouraging gaze reminding me of who I really am and his open and activated third eye also reminds me I’m on the right track.

This is my visual tribute and thank you to this great man.
